The Prisoner was recommended to mercy taken. during the Trial of the said Salvador Lacrase by Her Majesty's Superintendent of Trade in China, who presided as Judges of the said Admiralty Court.

3. Opinion of Richard Burgass Esqr Barrister at Law the legal Adviser of the Government of Hongkong and of the said Superintendent of Trade. to, as to the jurisdiction of the Court over the said Salvador Lacrase.

It will be seen from the Record that the Prisoner Salvador Lacrase was found guilty of the crime of Murder for which he was arraigned, and that sentence of Death has been recorded against him by the Court.

I think it right to state to Your Lordship, that although Mr. Burgass acted as Prosecutor on the part of the Crown, he also, by the special desire of the Court, urged every argument that occurred to him in favour of the accused, and that every thing that passed in the Court during the Trial, was most carefully interpreted and explained, to the Prisoner by sworn and competent Interpreters. I also think it right to forward to Your Lordship the four following additional documents.

1. The Address of Her Majesty's Superintendents of Trade, &c., who presided as Judge – to the Foreman and Members of the Grand Jury their being summoned.

2. The Remarks made by the said Superintendent to the Petty Jury at the close of summing up the Evidence shown in the Notes.

3. The Terms of the Sentence, passed by the Court in the Case.

4. The depositions taken in the preliminary investigation by the Chief and Marine Magistrates of Police.

I have to request, that Your Lordship will be pleased to humbly lay this despatch and its accompanying documents before Her Majesty.
